Choosing a size and type
Canopy size, design and your total jump numbers need to match. Wing loading and canopy performance matter, and a high-performance canopy is no bargain for someone who is not ready for it. Talk with your instructor or coach before you buy, and follow the progression guidance of your drop zone and skydiving organization.
What to check
- Size in square feet, and the make and model
- Jump count and age
- Fabric condition: wear, fading, holes, repairs, and how it has been stored
- Lines: type, wear, damage, and when they were last replaced
- Whether the slider, pilot chute, bridle and risers are included and in good shape
- Any history of hard openings or packing problems
- Paperwork or rigger notes, if the seller has them
Questions to ask the seller
- How many jumps does it have, and what kind of jumps?
- Has it had line replacement or repairs?
- Has it ever been damaged or opened badly?
- Was it stored dry and out of the sun?
