Used skydiving rig inspection checklist
A certified rigger is the person who decides whether a used rig is fit to jump. This checklist helps you gather the right information and ask good questions. It does not replace their inspection.

Bring to the inspection
- The rig, with the main and the reserve
- The AAD and its paperwork
- Logbook pages, repack records and receipts, if the seller has them
- The seller’s listing or message describing the gear
- Any manufacturer notices you know of
Things to look at together
- Container and harness: webbing, stitching, hardware, closing loops and flaps
- Reserve: date of manufacture, repack records, history, and whether it is approved for this container
- Main: age, jump count, lines, fabric, repairs and risers
- AAD: model, service and end-of-life dates, and paperwork
- Release and cutaway system: your rigger will check that it works as it should
- Labels and serial numbers: present, readable, and matching the paperwork
Questions for your rigger
- Is anything out of date, worn, or approaching a limit?
- Are these components approved to be used together?
- Would you pack and jump it, and what would you change?
- What should I do about anything you flagged?
Afterwards
Keep the paperwork from the inspection. If your rigger flags something, take it seriously and ask what it means for the price, or whether to walk away.
